Executive Bios — Wiley Loughran

Wiley Loughran serves as COO of EMS Sky Connect, EMS Technologies’ Iridium-based hardware and services business, based in Washington, D.C.

In his COO role, Loughran heads the business’s global sales team, business development and many other business functions of the Sky Connect organization.

Loughran was a founding member of Sky Connect with Steve Silverman, Sky Connect’s president, in 2003. During this time he and Silverman grew the company to 21 people and more than $10 million in sales. He developed sales channels, a domestic sales team and international sales representation in 10 foreign countries. Loughran helped secure major clients in the offshore oil market, both domestically and abroad, as well as major Air Ambulance clients in North America.

Prior to forming Sky Connect, Loughran owned his own avionics sales company. He also worked for AirCell as the East Coast sales manager. Prior to working in the airborne communication field he had a successful career in publishing and public relations. He was publisher of major trade magazines, including, Sea Power Magazine, The Almanac of Sea Power, Armed Forces Journal International and Rotor & Wing Magazine, as well as Director of Advertising and Public Relations for Unisys Defense Systems.

Loughran has been a pilot for 30 years, and flies his own airplane for business and pleasure. In his off hours, he can be found training Labrador Retrievers (he has two) and bird hunting for upland game and waterfowl. He is a certified chef, from L’academie De Cuisine, and enjoys fine wine. He lives with his wife in Vienna, Virginia.
