EMS
Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq – ELMG) announced today it has received the
first order from Mexico for its packet data terminal, the PDT-100. EMS
reached an agreement with ASTRUM Comunicaciones, a Mexican
telecommunications service provider, for the immediate delivery of the
first shipment of units as part of a 12-month deal. ASTRUM
will use the EMS units in conjunction with the TMI satellite network in
telecommunications services for vehicle location, fleet management,
communication with remote workers, monitoring of remote fixed assets, and
telemetry systems in Mexico. Astrum's services are sold through a Value
Added Service Providers (VASP) network. The
announcement coincides with the large-scale market rollout of the PDT-100.
With the introduction of the PDT-100 to the Mexican market, the EMS packet
data terminal now has deployment throughout North America, with available
coverage from Alaska to Southern Colombia. “A packet data satellite communications solution offers inherent advantages over existing terrestrial communications that have limited range. The PDT-100 allows Astrum to offer its customers communication solutions with coverage throughout Mexico, and beyond to anywhere in North and Central America,” said James McMillan, director, Sales & Marketing – Land Mobile Products, for EMS Technologies’ SATCOM division. McMillan
further commented, “Forming a partnership with a market leader such as
Astrum concurs with our market penetration strategy for the PDT-100. The
PDT-100 represents state-of-the-art technology, and EMS seeks partnerships
with organizations such as Astrum that are able to incorporate the PDT
into technologically advanced, industry leading solutions.” Astrum has significant experience in mobile satellite communications and a thorough understanding of the needs of the transportation industries. Astrum’s parent company, Proeza, manufacturers vehicle frames, structural components and truck side rails for the automotive industries. The Proeza group comprises eleven companies covering a range of industries. In addition to the automotive division, Proeza has a foundry division and a fruit and juice division. The company also provides computer application services through its subsidiary, Servidata. "Astrum
is positioned to accelerate its growth throughout the Mexican market and
become a dominant player in wireless services and related
businesses," said Rodolfo Benavides, president of Astrum. "We
intend to do this by combining the best telecommunication technologies and
most competitive partners across our network of value-added service
providers." About
